DRIVER TEST REQUIREMENT AND PROCEDURE

1) Applicant must be 18 years and above.

2) He/She must not have any physical or mental disability.

3) Applicant must produce two recent coloured passport size photographs 2 by 21/2 full face with shoulder with name and address behind a picture.

4) Picture to be endorsed by authorised or schedule officer after ascertaining that it is a true picture of the applicant.

5) Applicant would then  purchase a form F and a medical form  for the vision test.

6) On submission of the medical report applicant is taken through the road signs and roadworthy markings before the acquisition of the learner License. a) Applicant after satisfying that information on questionnaire on Form F and the learner's License are correct appends his/her signature on the space provided for such purpose.

7) After the three-month driver training the applicant submits his/her application form and the leaner License to the schedule officer and he/she is taken though the driving test.

8) Before the practical driving test, the applicant has to undergo a theoretical test to enable him/her identify and interpret the Road signs and Road markings, since these languages of the road guarantees the safety of the applicant, the examiner and other road users during the test.

9) During the test the examiner would observe how the applicant handle the following:

a) Steering Handling Control

b) Gear Selection

c) Taking Offs on both level and on gradients

d) Reversing

e) Display of road sense

10) The applicant must be able to control the vehicle in traffic.

11) Bring the vehicle from a normal speed to a stand still at an appropriate part of the road and to stop the vehicle in an emergency.

12) He must be able to turn corners, cross main roads and turn from side to main roads.

13) To pass and overtake vehicles.

14) To understand the indication of speed and figures shown on the speedometer. When an applicant has passed a driving test to the satisfaction of the testing officer, the applicant would be given a certificate of competency stating

a) Class or type of vehicle on which applicant was tested.

b) The type of License the applicant is qualified to receive.

c) The information would then be transferred on to the drivers License booklet.

d) The applicant then pays for the driving License and a cover note issued to enable the applicant collect License in 30 days from the date of issue of the cover note. However where the applicant fails to pass the test his short falls would be recorded on the form and a new date for retesting would be communicated to the applicant.
